The sixth annual Ethics Index has been released by the Governance Institute of Australia. This is a survey that gauges what Australians think of the ethical standpoint of the professionals in many sectors of business in society.
We are proud to report that accountants continue to top the ranks within the sector of finance and banking, with a rank of 35, slightly down from 2020’s 39. All fields seemed to take a hit this year, tax agents dropping from 28 to 27 and mortgage brokers, at the bottom of the pile, with a net score of 9 compared to 13 in 2020.
The only professionals who did not see a drop in their overall net score were bank managers, sitting at 16 and unchanged from 2020.
We believe the drop in confidence could be to do with growing concerns as a whole regarding the finance and banking sector, with inflation, rising mortgage rates and an unstable stock market being only some of our financial woes.
Instability in general is not favourable for business owners and individuals alike, who are unable to create any kind of forecasting models accurately to plan goals for the coming year.
We here at YBM seek to support our clients by providing up to date and relevant information and guidance on what pandemic support packages they are able to access as a result of COVID-19, whilst simultaneously looking to strengthen a business for the inevitable moment that these support packages are removed.
There are many more opportunities to continue to pivot and grow your business over the coming months and years and we would like to learn more about your business to match you with a strategy that looks to take you from strength to strength.
Dr Jane Rennie who is the general manager of external affairs, policy and advocacy at CPA Australia noted that the clear message to take away from this 2021 Ethics Index was that accountants should be very proud of these results.
Our high levels of integrity throughout the pandemic have been rewarded by the Australian public and we will continue to deliver impeccable service to our clients so that trust keeps climbing into the next year.
We will continue to source resources and provide ideas to our clients to help them to create the kind of business they want to be involved in. Although the past year has been hard on everyone, we are excited for what 2022 can offer.
