The Australian Government has introduced significant updates to Youth Allowance across January and February 2026, aiming to better support students, apprentices, and job seekers dealing with rising living costs. Payment Increases (From 1 January 2026)
- Youth Allowance payment rates increased as part of the annual indexation cycle. Students aged 18+ living away from home can now receive up to $677.20 per fortnight.
- Single parents receiving Youth Allowance now receive up to $854.20 per fortnight following updated indexed rates.
- An additional $13.90 per fortnight increase was applied for singles 18+ living away from home due to cost-of-living indexation.

Eligibility & Rule Changes (From 2 February 2026)

- Reduced parental income weighting means fewer applicants will miss out due to family financial circumstances.
- Simplified assessments through Services Australia aim to reduce processing delays and improve approval timelines.

Current Youth Allowance recipients will automatically receive the updated 2026 payment rates with no need to reapply.
